Incident description:
Bristol Channel NPAS South Wales police helicopter UFO video
On September 23, 2016 the National Police Air Service (NPAS South West Region, based in St Athan, South Wales) posted a short thermal image video of a flying object on their Twitter account (@NPASSouthWest), asking for suggestions and possible witnesses.
In order to share the clip on social media a small part of the video (1:15 min) has been recorded from a monitor using a camera phone. But NPAS filmed the object for more than 7 minutes.
According to NPAS South West, the object was captured over Bristol Channel on September 17, 2016 (around 9:30pm) at approximately 1000ft using a thermal imaging camera system (black hot). The object could not be seen in normal "day camera" mode nor by the crew themselves. It was pitch black when the crew was practicing by picking up the heat source of an aircraft landing in Cardiff when they came across the object.
The object was purportedly travelling into the wind and would have to be very fast because they were unable to keep up with it.
Some time later a group or an individual released a longer and higher quality version of the video (7:59 min) on YouTube as well as further information on a webpage under the name "GEA KT1".
It is said that the video (DVD) as well as a page of flight log entries was provided from West Yorkshire Police in response to a FOI request (FOI 4096/16) on November 25, 2016.
